Directions
From Austin: To get to the W9BF QTH from Austin, head
northwest on US 183 through Cedar Park and Leander. Be aware that US 183
is now a toll road (US 183A) north of
RR 620. You can exit from the limited access highway before the first
toll and continue north on the older, non-limited access, non-tolled US 183
through Cedar Park and Leander. If you take the toll road, be aware that the
Lakeline Blvd. Plaza does not take cash, and those without a
TxTag in their vehicle will have their
license plate photographed and subsequently receive a bill in the mail for
the $0.50 toll plus billing fees. You can exit at Lakeline Mall Blvd. before
the Toll Plaza, and stay on the frontage road until you are forced to enter
the toll road again after the Avery Ranch Blvd. instersection. A toll
plaza at that on ramp will cost $0.50 in cash, but you will avoid getting a
bill in the mail. The toll at the Park Street Plaza in Cedar Park is $1.50
cash or $1.35 with a TxTag. The total cash fare will be $2.00 each way.
US 183A and US 183 converge north of Leander.
North of Leander, head west-northwest on State Highway 29 from the US 183
intersection at Seward Junction to the stoplight at RR 1869 (a distance
of approximately two miles). Turn left (west-southwest) and proceed
through the small town of Liberty Hill. Continuing on RR 1869 (also
known as Liveoak Street), you will go over railroad tracks, through
intersections with stop signs, and over the South San Gabriel River
bridge. Several hundred yards from the bridge, turn left on CR 282
(for which you will see a sign just after the bridge). The road will
make a gentle curve to the right and then a sharp curve to the left.
About half a mile after the sharp left, turn left to go under an orange
arch with the name "Rio Gabriel Ranch" on it.
You will now be on Rio Gabriel Drive. The W9BF QTH is 201 Rio Gabriel
Drive, and will be about 0.4 miles on the left. The towers make it easy
to spot. Go through the gated entrance. Park off the asphalt drive on the
"grass", in front of double door garage of the main house, or on the
circular drive in front. Be sure to leave room for vehicles to exit.
